Estaciones
Unitas Ensemble
Lina Gonzalez-Granados, conductor
Dedicated to the work of 20th- and 21st-century Hispanic composers, this disc features the 2003 work Las Dos Estaciones by Paul Desenne for string orchestra and harpsichord. Quoting from Vivaldi's Four Seasons, the piece reimagines the familiar gestures in an intensely cross-rhythmic language, amazingly virtuosic, yet delightfully folkloric.

Performed by master puppeteers in collaboration with the Unitas Ensemble under Benjamin Juarez Echenique, this app features a gorgeous audio/visual recording of the opera, as well as interviews with musicians and academics discussing various topics related to this magical work. The harpsichord part, composed for Wanda Landowksa, is a rare and beautiful example of impressionist music featuring that instrument.
